Materials:
Pencil, composition notebook, highlighters, colored pencils, red
pens, scientific calculator and if you have your own device please bring it
everyday

Composition Notebooks: Students
take notes and/or do classroom activities in their own composition notebooks.
Notebooks may be submitted for grading at any point during the year. Notebook grades
would count in the work category.
Tests: Student
progress will be assessed through module tests and district benchmark
assessments. Tests make up 60% of a student’s grade. RETAKES ARE NOT PERMITTED.
Make-ups may be permitted with proof of excused absence up until one week prior
to progress report grade reporting, and must be arrange with the teacher.
Make-ups are only administered after school and lunch with study buddies.
Quizzes: Students
will quiz every Friday, and occasional pop quizzes may be given. Students can submit
corrected quizzes using the three-column format for a higher quiz grade.
Corrections will be accepted up until one week prior to progress report grade

Classroom
Policies:
Attendance: Students
are required to attend class every day.
A student is tardy if they are not in their assigned seat with notebook opened
when the bell rings. All absences must be excused with the attendance office to
be eligible for make-up credit for quizzes and tests.
Electronics: Electronics
are NOT PERMITTED inside the Math 1 classroom, unless specifically told to
bring/use them for math related work. All visible devices, including ear buds,
will be given a warning first, then confiscated until the end of the period.
Cell phones, iPods, etc are permitted for use as a calculator when given
permission.
Engagement: Students are expected to
participate in all classroom activities and give full effort on all
assignments. Students having difficulty staying on task may be moved from the
collaborative environment until focus can be restored. Failure to complete
required assignments will result in after school and/or lunchtime detention.

requiring additional assistance outside of the classroom are expected to take
advantage of the resources offered to them:

Family Resources: Students
and families are expected to monitor progress in the course regularly through
Aeries, the online grading portal for VHS. Login information is available
through your student’s counselor (Kathleen Brainerd, Counseling). Families are
also encouraged to regularly review composition notebooks, Parent Portal and
the course website to help students stay on top of coursework.
Students with Special Needs: Families with students that require additional
support as outlined in 504 or IEP plans should contact the instructor to
discuss how these needs can be met inside and outside the classroom. Students
requiring use of calculators, multiplication tables, alternate testing
environments, and other supports will be accommodated in the least restrictive way
possible.
